FIRST INTERSTATE BANK - Los Angeles
Manager of the California Banking Group.
Responsible for all banking activities throughout California including
400 branches. Included all lending categories -commercial, agriculture, accounts receivable, factoring, real estate
(acquisition, development and portfolio), leasing, installment and credit card, deposits, product management and e banking. Worldwide marketing, advertising and corporate
facilities (over 5 million sq ft)..
Bank wide committee memberships: Managing, Credit Policy, Loan, Asset & Liability, Human Resource and Project Control. Maintained a $25 million personal lending authority.
- Increased fee income by 100% in one year by utilizing a strong team of product managers, who directed a comprehensive review of fees using a value added concept
- Co-founded with Bank of America, Interlink, the nation's largest point-of-sale network
- Created, then supervised a team who implemented the world's first sophisticated interactive, location independent "home/office banking system" utilizing TVs, black boxes and phones. This was a full service, system, which included bill paying, funds transfer, loan and account inquiries.
- Coordinated with regional managers and corporate facilities a comprehensive - five year rolling branching strategy, including location, purpose, size and design to fit our future electronic banking strategy - built over 75 profitable branches
- Initiated and managed a creative team of officers that won the right to become the official bank of the 1984 Olympics, without being the highest financial bidder
- Created a card that was a true combined Debit/Credit Card
- Sponsored an audio response system, Telephone Banking, to pay bills, obtain account and loan information and transfer funds

Consisted of domestic operations*, international operations**, marketing, advertising, corporate facilities, data processing, software development, item processing, cash management, securities services, global funds transfer and special projects.
*Policy, Insurance, purchasing, telecommunications, aircraft, vehicles, cash vault, security, word processing and more.
**Policy, operations in 16 overseas branches, accounting, foreign currency, letters of credit, collections, wire transfers, correspondent bank settlements and more.
- Increased hard core productivity by 35% with an outstanding group of associates in the administrative group, coupled with a 1% reduction in staff and budget increases held to 50% of inflation
- Obtained the above productivity utilizing focused planning, team building and motivation, all under an umbrella theme of "Best in the West"
- Lead a team that was responsible for taking the lead position in the installation of ATMs in California - the first step in a bank-wide strategy including the worlds first intercontinental ATM in London.
- Directed and managed a revolving 5 year data processing plan
- Sponsored and supported Project Edge, designed to interface with Fed Wire, Chips, Chaps, Swift, customer's accounts, the bank's internal information and accounting systems (including profitability analysis) and finally to the bank's money desk
- Conceived and with a talented task force was responsible for building a 1 million square foot computer and administrative building in downtown Los Angeles near our 60 story headquarters building
Assistant to the President, major involvement with planning and policy;
- Key player in the major turn-around of the bank, 14th largest in U.S.
- Lead the team that created and wrote the vision and mission statement for the bank - TQB, The Quality Bank
- Initiated and implemented the Project Control Committee of senior officers who first inventoried and prioritized all software and hardware, real estate and equipment projects in the bank, then approved and prioritized all new projects.
